This seminar was held in 17th July in sapporo under the main theme
of the role of transport infrastructure on urban development and included
about 150 participants.
There were four lectures as follows::

"Present Situation and Problem of Urban Railway in Europe"
by Dr.Pierre Laconte, UITP

"Revitalization and Transport in Declining Cities"
by Professor Tony Flowerdew, University of Kent

"Improvement Plan of Industrial Cities in F.R.Germany"
by Professor Michael Wegener, University of Tokyo

The lectures were followed by a panel discussion chaired by Professor Hideo Igarashi, Hokkaido University

Two papers written by SIG members, one by Dr. Vernon Webster and Mr. Neil Paully and the other by Dr. Roger Mackett, Dr. David Simmonds and Professor Michael Wegener were jointly awarded the Yokohama Conference Prize among seven prize recipients, for the excellence of their papers and also for the activity of ISGLUTI.

The SIG organized several special sessions at the fifth World Conference on Transport Research to be held from 10-14th July,@1989@in Yokohama.

The SIG organized other meetings on the occasions of conferences in related fields. At the 28th European Congress of Regional Science Association, three coordinated sessions were organized for the SIG, where there were eleven presentations.
